Description

Between 1981 and 2005, Remington produced a series of Model 700 Classic Limited Edition rifles.  These rifles were produced in limited quantities of a different caliber each year.  The rifles had a classic straight stock and high polish bluing.  The rifles offered during this time period were:  7x57mm Mauser (1981), 257 Roberts (1982), 300 H&H (1983), 250 Savage (1984), 350 Rem Mag (1985), 264 Win Mag (1986), 338 Win Mag (1987), 35 Whelen (1988), 300 Wby. Mag (1989), 25-06 (1990), 7mm Wby. Mag (1991), 220 Swift (1992), 222 Rem (1993), 6.5x55mm Swedish (1994), 300 Win Mag (1995), 375 H&H Mag (1996), 280 Rem (1997), 8mm Rem Mag (1998), 17 Rem (1999), 223 Rem (2000), 7mm-08 Rem (2001), 221 Fireball (2002), 300 Savage (2003), 8mm Mauser (2004), 308 Win (2005).  The calibers, as you can see, were often classic or uncommon cartridges.  These rifles were (and still are) sought after by collectors because they provide a way to get non-standard calibers in a standard Remington 700 production gun.

Our customer has the entire collection of these rifles with most of them still being unfired and in the original box.  Those rifles above that have been “struckthrough” are the models that have sold already.  While we anticipate moving all of the remaining rifles individually through the auction process, know that we likely have the model that’s missing from your collection if you need a particular caliber/year.  These are beautiful rifles and Remington did not produce them in large numbers.  While not all production data is publicly available, some of the calibers only had 1479 rifles produced in that year.  Finding the rifles can be a difficult task.  Finding them in near pristine condition is an incredibly difficult task.

The rifle that we have today is the 338 Win Mag model.  From the list above, that would indicate the 1987 offering and the CH barrel code confirms the date.  The owner bought these beautiful, limited edition rifles to collect, not shoot, and the condition reflects that.

The bore is Minty, as is the 24 inch barrel (inside and out).  The wood is beautiful and Near Mint.  The checkering is crisp and sharp.  The buttpad grades Excellent – Near Mint as well. The metal finish grades that way also.  This is just a beautiful rifle in all aspects.

Whether you’re a fan of the Model 700 Classic, whether you need this rifle to complete your own collection or if you just like beautiful, pristine vintage rifles, there’s a lot to like on this particular one.  Uncommon to find in this condition, it’s going to be a great addition for someone that recognizes the value of this collectible rifle.

Purchase includes the rifle (serial #:  B6842429), original box and unopened instruction book packet.  The box, as the pictures show, is not in pristine condition but is complete and original.

This is a consignment sale and, like all of our consignments, we have not test fired this rifle.  We have performed our function checks and find no issues to report.  As with all pre-owned firearm purchases, please review the photos carefully so that you are comfortable with the condition of the rifle.
